Indian Salmon is called as Rawas. The same fish is called Maga in Telugu. Indian salmon, blue threadfin, or Rawas, is a threadfin fish of the Polynemidae family. Rawas is not only tasty in addition it has considerable health benefits; whether baked, broiled, seared or grilled, research has shown that these fish are among the most heart-healthy of dishes.

Salmon is not the same as India salmon. Salmon is Atlantic fish it belongs to Salmonidae family. Pacific salmon has 6 varieties which does not include “rawas” . Chinook, chum, coho, Masu, Pink, Sockeye.

Here are the top 4 reasons which make it a must-have health food that’s also lip smacking.

  1. It lowers the risk of depression: The brain is made up of 60 per cent fat and most of that is the omega-3 fatty acid which is essential for the brain to function properly. Eating salmon regularly has often been linked to reducing the risk and incidence of depression.
  2. Aids in weight-loss: One of the biggest ways to cut down fat and keep you on the path of a weight-loss plan is to consume protein–which is present in salmon. Eating lean protein, which is good for the heart and overall health, plays a major role in modulating insulin levels or insulin sensitivity. This, in turn, keeps you satiated therefore making you less likely to overeat between meals.
  3. Helps in preventing cell damage: Along with its many vitamins and high protein content, salmon is an amazing source of selenium–a mineral that works as an antioxidant in the body. It is further connected to decreased risk of joint inflammation, which keeps the immune system and thyroid in place and also takes care of any tissue damage.
  4. Takes care of your cardiovascular health: The omega-3 fat is also responsible for decreasing the risk of numerous cardiovascular problems like heart attack, stroke, heart arrhythmia, high blood pressure, and high triglycerides in the blood. When consumed two to three times per week, salmon can protect you from heart issues.
