Rawas Tawa Fry – Indian Salmon Fried Fish – Homemade Recipe

Preparation Time: 2 hours | Cooking Time: 15 mins | Serves: 2 to 4


  1. Rawas Fish Steaks – 500 grams.
  2. Fishtokri Fish Fry Masala – 4 tbsp.
  3. Coriander Powder – 2 tbsp.
  4. Turmeric Powder – ¼ tbsp.
  5. Ginger Garlic Paste – 1 tbsp.
  6. Lemon Juice – 1 tbsp.
  7. Salt.
  8. Rice Flour 1 tbsp.
  9. Oil


  • Marinate Rawas using 2 tbsp Fishtokri Fish Fry Masala, 2 tbsp Corriander
    powder, ¼ tbsp. Turmeric Powder, 1 tbsp ginger garlic paste and lemon juice.
  • Add salt as per taste. Keep aside for 1 hour.
  • Heat oil in frying Pan.
  • Add 1 tbsp rice flour and 2 tbsp Fishtokri Fish Fry Masala and salt in a Dish.
  • Mix the dry mixture well.
  • Pat the marinated Fish in this dry mixture.
  • Coat it well and then shallow fry till brown.
  • Garnish with coriander leaves.

Ingredients used in Mangalore Bangude (Mackerel) Rawa Fry

  • Tamarind pulp water-enough to make it in to a paste – 10 ml.
  • Pepper powder – 1 teaspoons.
  • Coriander powder – 2 tablespoons.
  • Chilli powder – 3 tablespoons.
  • Turmeric – 2 tablespoons.
  • Mackerel fresh and good in size – 4 numbers.
  • Salt to taste – 2 teaspoons.
  • Semolina( rawa) – 2 cup.
  • Coconut oil – 6 tablespoons.


  • Bangude means Mackerel in coastal north Karnataka and udipi coastal line. This is a combinationalways goes well with rice daal.
  • Its very simple to make. Get a nice medium or Good size Fresh Mackerels(Bangude). Clean the fish without beheading it. Once cleaned run knife on the body edges in slant as it would slit in slant on either sides.
  • Apply salt and Turmeric and keep aside till you prepare the ingredients(marinating) required to fry.
  • And they are Red chilly powder ,Coriander powder, pepper powder, ginger garlic paste, salt, tamarind pulp water and semolina for coating .
  • Mix the above together and make it in to a paste apply the paste on the Mackerel (Bangude). once this paste Is applied keep the fish for about 10 to 15 minutes so it absorbs the ingredients and it would give a wonder full taste.
  • Heat the pan with Oil if possible Coconut oil. and now apply the semolina on the fish coat it nicely and place it on the pan see to it that oil is not too much .
  • The mackerel will nicely cook any how . Once the semolina is dark brown turn the sides you can also use hot oil from the pan and keep on spilling on the other side of the fish while frying them , which will add to crisp and better cooking of the mackerel serve it with sliced lemon.
  • This fish fry goes very well with nice white steam rice daal .Try it.

Mangalore Bangude (Mackerel) Rawa Fry

Recipe Name: Crispy Fried BASA
Fish Used:  Basa (Order Here) 
For Basa-

  1. 1. 1/2 kg Basa fish fillet
  2. 2. 100 gm semolina
  3. 3. 1 Tsp red chilli powder
  4. 4. salt to taste.

For Salad-

  1. 1. Carrot
  2. 2. Radish
  3. 3. Cucumber
  4. 4. Bell peppers (red, green and yellow)
  5. 5. French beans
  6. 6. Cauliflower
  7. 7. Green onion
  8. 8. Broccoli
  9. 9. or as per your choice.

The method for fish:

  1. 1. Wash fish n dry it.
  2. 2. Add red chilli powder n salt in semolina.
  3. 3. Apply this mixture on both the sides of fish.
  4. 4. Take a dosa tava and grease it with 2-3 Tsp.oil, let it get hot, now put your fish on tava and cook from both the sides. Your fish is ready.

Preparation of salad:

  1. 1. Cut your vegetables in length wise except cauliflower n broccoli (make small pieces of them)
  2. 2. Now, steam cauliflower, broccoli n beans (half cook) then stirred fry them sprinkle salt n black pepper powder on them. Keep rest of other vegetables raw. Keep them in iced cold water for some time.
  3. 3. Add sweet red chilli sauce and oyster sauce in raw vegetables as per your requirements.

Now arrange your fish with salad n serve hot n enjoy hot crispy basa with the yummy salad.

Crispy Fried Basa

Recipe Name: Pomfret Bhujane (A Pathare Prabhu Special Recipe)
Fish Used: Silver Pomfret (Order here)
(Tip: Especially we used the head & tail of the Silver Pomfret for this Curry)


  1. 1. Onions – 2 (Finely Chopped)
  2. 2. Ginger garlic paste
  3. 3. Red chilli powder
  4. 4. Haldi powder
  5. 5. Salt to Taste
  6. 6. Coriander leaves (Freshly Chopped)
  7. 7. Oil.


  1. 1.Finely chop the onions add ginger-garlic paste, Turmeric, red chili powder, salt, oil and coriander leaves
  2. 2.Nicely crush this all ingredients with your hands.
  3. 3.Heat a pan. Add all the above mixture, add a little water as per your requirement.
  4. 4. Cover the Pan for 10mins. Cook till the onion changes the colors, then add the Pomfret pieces & mix well.
  5. 5. Cook for five Minutes as fish pieces cook quickly. Once done garnish it with coriander leaves.
  6. 6. Serve hot with rice.
